Today, the Supreme Court of India heard a batch of petitions related to the Manipur violence including the recent sexual violence. The bench hearing the matter will announce the setting up of the committee which will include three former women High Court judges to ‘look at diverse aspects on humanitarian nature’. The Supreme Court mentioned that the committee will look into the matter with a broader view including remedial measures, restoration of homes, relief, places of worship, and rehabilitation measures. The Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud announced that the committee will be headed by former Chief Justice of J&K High Court Justice Gita Mittal and the other two members will be former Bombay HC judge Justice Shalini Phansalkar Joshi, and former Delhi HC judge Justice Asha Menon. Along with this, the bench stated that it will also add one more layer of protection by appointing former Maharashtra DGP Mr. Dattatray Padsalgikar IPS for monitoring the probe.
