The Top Court today while rejecting the plea for consideration of caste reservations in armed school noted that armed forces are considered as a single unit and that they must not be divided into castes.

A bench headed by justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul strongly mentioned that a new beginning has been made by setting up these schools to females in the country and the matter of caste based reservation should not be misled as the focal point of the court.

Few days back there were multiple petitions filed in the Supreme Court in the intake of girls and women in NDA and other armed schools across the nation.

Another judge in the bench justice MM Sundresh informed advocate Kailas More “You cannot have caste reservation in military schools. Constitutional provisions for the reservation do not work in this way...We are focussed on gender issues and would not want you to divide it into other issues of caste, etc.”.

Kalidas More, argued by relating the case with gender discrimination and bias in the defence schools and college, Sainik Schools he also raised and pleaded for the court inclusion of caste-based reservation to make access to all castes and could make them to join in defence forces.

All the arguments of the advocate failed to impress the bench.

The Bench said that “You can’t imply civil society issues here. A defence officer in the force from one state and another defence officer of another state can be considered in the same unit; You can’t separate  them on the base of caste”
