Today, the Supreme Court (SC) was hearing a request from the petitioners seeking a review of the same-sex marriage equality case decision to have an open court hearing. Senior Advocate NK Kaul, who appeared for the petitioner, said “We would humbly request would Your Lordships consider that in public interest these hearings could happen in open court, my lords?” Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud refused to grant an open court hearing and said that “Constitution bench review is not some…you know this is in chambers.” The review petition is scheduled to be heard by a five-judge bench of the SC including the CJI, Justice BV Nagarathna, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Hima Kohli, and Justice PS Narasimha on Wednesday (July 10) at 1:30 pm.
