2002 Gujarat Riots: Bilkis Bano’s plea against the pre-mature release of 11 convicts, SC to hear the case for final hearing on October 11

Today, the Supreme Court (SC) of India deferred to October 11, 2023, the final hearing of Bilkis Bano’s plea against the pre-mature release of 11 convicts in connection with the communal riots that broke out after the Godhra train burning incident as is also addressed as 2002 Gujarat riots. The matter was heard today by Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice BV Nagarathna. The SC bench said, “We will have it on Wednesday.” It added that they will try to conclude hearing the matter the same day. The written submission of the petitioners was received by the Supreme Court; therefore, the bench said, “List on October 11 at 2 p.m.” On October 06, the Supreme Court bench asked the petitioners to file their short written arguments and told them “We don’t want re-opening of the whole case again at your instance.”
