On July 30, 2024, the Supreme Court (SC) allowed an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Punjab, Jaswant Singh to withdraw a plea challenging his arrest by the ED (Enforcement Directorate) for allegedly being a director and guarantor of a company M/s TCL that obtained loan and credit facilities of over Rs. 46 crores. The SC bench constituting Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma was hearing the matter today. During the proceedings, it was noted that the amount of Rs. 46 crores has been diverted to other companies, despite the terms and conditions of extending the credit facilities. Moreover, it was noted that Rs. 3.12 crores have been diverted to the AAP leader’s personal account. The top court gave him the liberty to approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court. AAP MLA Jaswant Singh was booked under the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) and was arrested by the ED in November last year (2023).
