The Supreme Court (SC) bench comprising Justice Abhay S. Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan posted the hearing of the MLA and former Minister V Senthil Balaji’s plea to May 15, 2024 (Wednesday). The plea was filed against the order of the Madras High Court that rejected his bail in a cash-for-jobs money laundering case. During the proceedings today, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared for the ED (Enforcement Directorate), and Senior Advocate Aryama Sundaram appeared for Balaji. SG Mehta sought more time from the SC and said that the case was of victims being won over concerning which there were findings required to be shown. On the other hand, SA Sundaram sought Balaji’s bail on the ground that he had been in custody for about 328 days. After hearing the arguments from both sides, the SC adjourned the matter to May 15, 2024.
