In a recent development, the Supreme Court (SC) of India told the State Bank of India (SBI) that it has to disclose the electoral bond numbers along with the details of the purchase and redemption of the bonds. During the proceedings, the CJI said, “One thing. Who is appearing for the State Bank of India? They have not disclosed the bond numbers. It has to be disclosed by the State Bank of India.” Today, the constitutional bench of the SC consisting of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Manoj Misra, and Justice BR Gavai was hearing an application filed by the ECI (Election Commission of India). The ECI, in its application, sought the return of sealed cover documents containing information on electoral bonds. In context to this, the CJI directed the judicial registrar to return the original sealed cover to the ECI after digitizing the data from the sealed covers.
