On 12 June 2023, the vacation bench of the Supreme Court directed to list the plea concerning the issue of lack of toilets for women lawyers at Nilgiris Court Complex in the first week of July before an appropriate bench. Earlier on June 9, the top Court directed the administration of the Madras High Court to submit a detailed report regarding the lack of toilets for female lawyers by 11 June 2023, through its Registrar General. The bench consisting of Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Aniruddha Bose ordered that “In terms of our direction passed on 09.06.2023, the Registrar General of the High Court, Madras has filed a detailed report giving full particulars of the facilities available. As of now, the petitioner does not have any grievance. Let this matter be placed before the appropriate Bench the first week of July 2023.” The present application was filed by the Women Lawyers Association of Nigiris in an earlier writ petition filed by the Nilgiris District Bar Association which was further disposed of by the Supreme Court bench on 29 April. Recently, the National Commission for Women urged the Madras High Court to take steps regarding the issue of the lack of toilets for women lawyers at the Nilgiris Court Complex. Moreover, it also asked the Registrar of the Madras High Court to communicate the progress within three days. At last, the vacation bench listed the matter in the first week of July.
