Today, the Supreme Court (SC) adjourned the hearing in the bail plea filed by former JNU scholar and activist Umar Khalid in connection with the Delhi Riots conspiracy case on the basis of a joint request by both sides. The matter was presented today before a two-judge bench comprising Justices Satish Chandra Sharma and Bela M Trivedi. The SC bench adjourned the matter to January 10, 2024, after Senior Advocate (SA) Kapil Sibal and Additional Solicitor General SV Raju appearing for Khalid and Delhi Police respectively were unavailable. Initially, the bench suggested listing the matter next week but SA Sibal will be arguing before a Constitution bench, so the SC suspended the matter until January.
