Supreme Court Collegium recommends appointment of 7 Advocates & 5 Judicial Officers as Telangana High Court Judges

The Supreme Court Collegium said it has approved the proposal for elevation of seven Advocates and five Judicial officers as Judges in the Telangana High Court. The Collegium has forwarded the list to the Union government for further action. Following are the names of advocates and judicial officers.

The five judicial officers whose names have been recommended are G Anupama Chakravarthy, MG Priyadarshini, Sambasivarao Naidu, A Santosh Reddy, and Dr D Nagarjun.

The lawyers recommended for appointment are Kasoju Surendhar , Chada Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy, Surepalli Nanda, Mummineni Sudheer Kumar, Juvvadi Sridevi, Mirza Safiulla Baig, and Natcharaju Shravan Kumar Venkat.

In addition to the elevation of advocates and judicial officers of the Telangana high court, the SC collegium also recommended the elevation of several judicial officers to Jharkhand, Bombay and Calcutta high courts.

It also approved the proposal of elevation of lawyer Rajiv Roy as judge of the Patna High Court and judicial officers Poonam A Bamba, Neena Bansal Krishna, Dinesh Kumar Sharma, Anoop Kumar Mendiratta, Swarana Kanta Sharma and Sudhir Kumar Jain as judges of Delhi High Court.

This will take the number of judges in Telangana High Court to 30 including Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma. The High Court will still have 12 vacancies. In June 2021, the bench strength of Telangana High Court, which has over 2.3 lakh pending cases, increased from 24 to 42 judges.
