Supreme Court extends stay on the UP and Uttarakhand directions to shop owners to display their names and staff’s names outside the shops during the Kanwar Yatra season

Today (July 26, 2024), the Supreme Court (SC) of India extended the interim order that stays the directions of the Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Uttarakhand governments to the shop owners to display their names and staff’s names outside the shops during the Kanwar Yatra season till August 05, 2024. The bench constituting Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice SVN Bhatti stated that its interim order passed on July 22, 2024, will continue till the next hearing date (August 05). It said, “For voluntarily displaying names there is no issue. Our order says that they cannot be forced to put out owner names and employee names outside the dhaba.” Today, the SC was hearing petitions against the directions of the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments filed by the Association for Protection of Civil Rights, Professor Apoorvanand, Columnist Aakar Patel, and Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra
