Today (July 22, 2024), the Supreme Court (SC) of India said that it will hear the petitions seeking reconsideration of the Vijay Madanlal Choudhary judgment (Vijay Madanlal Choudhary vs. Union of India) that upheld the constitutional validity of various provisions of the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) on August 05, 2024. During a courtroom hearing today before a bench led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted that Additional Solicitor General SV Raju is having some personal difficulties. He said, “There is some personal difficulty. Mr. Raju is in some real personal difficulty in Ahmedabad.” He further pleaded with the Court to post the matter for hearing after 2 weeks. According to the earlier Supreme Court order, the SC bench was supposed to start hearing the matter on July 23 (tomorrow). Considering SG Mehta’s submissions, the top Court posted the matter for hearing on August 05, 2024.
