The Top Court postpones the case to the 24th November which deals against demonetisation by the government of India in 2016

The Apex Court today postponed the case to 24th November for listening to a batch of cases challenging the Union’s 2016 decision to demonetise the RS 500 and 1000 country notes of denomination.

The Bench composed of five justices led by Justice SA Nazeer postponed the case after AG R Venkataramani requested time to keep an analytic complete file in the case.

Venkataramani said sorry to the court and also to the Bench with Justices of BR Gavai, AS Bopanna, V Ramasubramanian, and BV Nagarathna, for not ready to file the analytical full fledged affidavit and request for a 7 day’s time.

Senior lawyer Shyam Divan, representing petitioner Vivek Narayan Sharma, noted that it’s very strange to request a Constitution Bench for postponement. Senior lawyer P Chidambaram, representing one of the parties, noted that this is an unusual situation.

One the judge in the bench Justice Nagarathna noted that generally the Constitutional Bench doesn’t go like this and it’s strange. The apex court gave 7 days time to the union to file an affidavit.

The court was hearing a bunch of fifty eight pleas appealing at the union’s 8th November, 2016 decision to demonetise the country’s RS 500 and RS 1000 currency.

16th December, 2016, a bench led by the then CJI TS Thakur had noted the interrogation of the approval of the verdict and other similar issues to a major bench of 5 justices for a complete judgement.
