Civic bodies claim no-hawking on NSC Bose road; Madras High court orders to point out CCTV footage, photographs for verification

The Chennai Corporation told Madras supreme court on Thursday that each one hawkers are off from the NSC Bose road. However, after the counsel for the petitioner – the late activist Traffic K R Ramaswamy -contested the claim and submitted that the hawkers had yet again started encroachments on the road, the court has directed the corporation to position on record CCTV footage of the realm ranging from June 27 to Jul 3 CCTV footage of the road.

The Madras HC also sought to put on record whether an alternate place for hawking has been given to the hawkers and said that photographs of the location be taken and produced before the court. this can be to verify that every one the hawkers are faraway from NSC Bose Road and are located within the place allocated to them.

On June 11, the court called out the corporation for not implementing the Supreme writ and other series of orders gone by the court to take care of the NSC Bose road as a no-hawking road.

The court also directed the govt counsel to make sure contemnors (officers holding top positions when the initial order was passed furthermore as those presently holding the posts) are present within the court on the following date of hearing.

The former Chief Secretary of Madras Gnanadesigan, former municipal administration secretary Pannerndra Reddy, former Chennai corporation commissioner Vikaram Kapoor, former Chennai commissioner of Police T K Rajendran, and former additional commissioner of police Abey Kumar Singh are some people whose appearance was directed.

In 1995, the Supreme Court declared the complete stretch of NSC Bose Road a no-hawking zone. After the authorities didn't act on the court's order, Ramasamy filed a contempt petition in 2016. The court in April this year gave two months' time to relocate the hawkers. This order was also not complied with.
