Today (January 03, 2025), the Supreme Court (SC) of India declined to entertain a plea filed by TD Rajegowda, Karnataka Congress Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), challenging ‘vague allegations’ made in a petition that challenged his 2023 Karnata assembly polls election win. The SC bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan refused to entertain the plea. It said, “We were also concerned with vague allegations but there is a provision which allows evidence to be produced…We hold that there is no reason to entertain this at this point of time and can be suitably addressed.”

In 2023, Rajegowda defeated Jeevaraja and won the MLA seat from the Sringeri assembly constituency. While representing Rajegowda, Senior Advocate Shyam Divan told the bench that Jeevaraja challenged the poll results and leveled vague allegations such as the use of black money without any evidence. The SC bench highlighted its earlier order where it observed that the Congress leader would be entitled to raise objections against the relevance or admissibility of any evidence produced by Jeevaraja, “The Election Tribunal-cum-High Court is requested to consider such objections in accordance with law.” Today, the bench declined to entertain the plea and said, “Admissibility' or 'relevance' is the word used ... It takes care of your concern.”
