In a recent development related to the reservation for women lawyers in Delhiās lawyer bodies, the Bar Council of Delhi, Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA), and all District Bar Associations, the Supreme Court (SC) of India directed the reservation of three posts for women lawyers in upcoming DHCBA elections. It also directed that the post of Treasurer plus 30% of other Executive Committee posts, in the District Bar Associations, should be reserved for women lawyers. The posts reserved in DHCBA for women are Treasures, Designated Senior Member Executive, and a member from the senior designation category. This order was passed by a two-judge bench of the SC constituting Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan. Earlier this year, the SC directed the implementation of 33% women reservation in the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections. On December 12, 2024, the Court asked Mohit Mathur, DHCBA President, to ensure that the issue regarding women's reservations is resolved immediately and amicably.
