Supreme Court Orders ASG to Forward Report on CCTV Installation to Home Ministry

23 February, Mr. Siddhartha Dave, learned Senior Advocate/Amicus Curiae submitted a report in the Supreme Court which stated that “many of the agencies under the Union of India and various State Governments have not complied with the directions for installation of CCTV cameras in the police station as well as the offices of agencies under the Union of India”. In addition, the Supreme Court requested Mr. Dave to provide a copy of the said Report to the learned Additional Solicitor General of India (ASG), who in turn was requested to forward it to the Union of India's Ministry of Home Affairs. 

A copy of the Report shall be forwarded by the Home Ministry, Union of India to the Home Secretaries of all the States as well as the Union Territories in the country. The same shall be done within a week from today. The learned ASG, however, informed Supreme Court that there is already a compliance of the directions Apex Court was of view that the Union of India as well as all the States/Union Territories will have to file an affidavit indicating their present status with regard to the Supreme Court directions. It is noteworthy that this is the sixth report.
