For the year 2023, the summer vacations for the Supreme Court will commence from May 22 to July 2. On May 8, 2023, the Supreme Court of India issued a corrigendum with respect to the name and composition of the benches that will hear the cases during summer vacation. Moreover, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha informed the lawyers today that the vacation benches will take fresh matters that are around 300. CJI said, “Vacation benches have agreed that fresh matters can be listed before vacation benches. There are 300 fresh matters on vacation. Also, hybrid hearings will be possible so that if somebody wants to go to a more convenient place can argue.” Justice Narasimha added, “Only requirement is to be well dressed.” While informing the lawyers, CJI said “My brothers who are sitting in the vacation benches have sportingly agreed to hear fresh matters in vacations.” Vacation benches for summer vacation from May 22 to July 2 are listed as follows:
In this context, the notification published by the Supreme Court of India mentioned that “In pursuance of Rule 4 of Order II of the Supreme Court Rules, 2013, Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India has directed that the Supreme Court will be closed for the annual Summer vacation from Monday, the 22nd May 2023 to Sunday, the 2nd July 2023 and will reopen on Monday, the 3rd July 2023.” It also mentioned that “During Summer Vacation the Registry will remain open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm for all the Officers and staff members of the Registry except Group C (non-clerical) staff in whose case timings will be from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm on all the days except Saturdays (other than the 1st July 2023), Sundays and holidays when it shall remain closed.”
