Justice BV Nagarathna: Appointed Chairperson of the Supreme Court Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee

On September 18, 2024 (Wednesday), the Supreme Court of India passed an office order stating that Hon’ble Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud re-constituted the Supreme Court Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee. Justice BV Nagarathna has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Supreme Court Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee after Justice Hima Kohli's retirement, who was heading the committee earlier. The other members of the committee are as follows:

  • Hon'ble Mr. Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh
  • Dr. Sukhda Pritam, Additional Registrar- Officer in service of the Supreme Court of India
  • Dr. Menaka Guruswamy, Senior Advocate- Senior Member of the Supreme Court Bar Association
  • Ms. Nina Gupta, Advocate- Senior Member of the Supreme Court Bar Association
  • Mr. Soumyajit Pani, Advocate- Representative of the Supreme Court Bar Association
  • Ms. Sakshi Banga, Advocate- Representative of the Supreme Court Bar Association
  • Ms. Anindita Pujari, Advocate-on-Record- Representative of the Supreme Court Advocate-on-Record Association
  • Ms. Madhu Chauhan- Representative of the Supreme Court Bar Clerks’ Association
  • Ms Bansuri Swaraj, Senior Advocate- Nominee of Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India
  • Mr. Jaideep Gupta, Senior Advocate- Senior Member of the Supreme Court Bar Association- Nominee of Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India
  • Dr. Leni Chaudhuri- Executive Director, University of Chicago Centre in India Pvt. Ltd.- Nominee of Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India

The September 18 order also states that the Committee is formed as per the  Gender Sensitisation & Sexual Harassment of Women at the Supreme Court of India (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Regulations, 2013. The order reads, “In exercise of powers conferred by Clause 4(2) of the Gender Sensitisation & Sexual Harassment of Women at the Supreme Court of India (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Regulations, 2013 and all enabling provisions in this behalf, Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India has been pleased to re-constitute the Supreme Court Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee…”
