Today (November 27, 2024), the Supreme Court (SC) of India passed an order seeking the response of former Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra while considering an application alleging that Ashish Mishra threatened witnesses in the Lakhimpur Kheri Violence case. The case was related to the killing of 5 persons in October 2021 during a farmer’s protest. The two-judge bench of Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Surya Kant passed the order. During the proceedings, Senior Advocate Siddharth Dave, who represented Ashish Mishra, refused the allegations and said, “Every time some application is filed, not for the Court, but for those outside.” He added that the photographs submitted to support the allegations do not ensure that the person seen is Ashish Mishra. However, Justice Kant said that Mishra should respond to the allegations formally by filing an affidavit.
