Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) told the Bombay High Court in an affidavit that Sameer Wankhede’s chats with Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan cannot be used as evidence of his integrity. These chats were shared by him to counter the allegations of extortion but these were not considered because he kept these chats a secret. Further, the federal agency said that there is no reason for Wankhede to continue such chats with the Bollywood actor. In an affidavit filed by Wankhede in the Bombay High Court, he mentioned that the Bollywood actor praised his integrity in the chats. Sameer Wankhede was facing a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) probe for demanding Rs. 25 Crore from Bollywood actor (Shah Rukh Khan) for not framing his son in a drugs case. The Bureau said that “With respect to the chats between Wankhede and the father of an accused, it is submitted that the same cannot be said to any evidence regarding Wankhede’s integrity  when the same has been kept in secret by him.” The NCB opined that “Moreover, it is pertinent to note that there was no reason for Wankhede to have continued such chats with Shah Rukh Khan without informing his superior officers,”  It added that the chats will be investigated by the CBI.

Wankhede in his affidavit mentioned that the special investigation team of the NCB protected Aryan Khan (son of Shah Rukh Khan) at the Cordelia vessel cruise raid. The NCB further dismissed the allegations and attached the transcripts of a conversation between the legal advisor and Wankhede which happened on June 2, 2023. The NCB said in the affidavit that “...excerpt of the transcripts of the conversation dated June 2, 2023, between Wankhede and the DLA clearly reflects that Wankhede, who was not part of the investigation or prosecution in the instant case was in regular touch with the DLA with the sole intention to manipulate the outcome of the investigation and to extract the sensitive information of the case with ulterior motive.” It was determined by the NCB that on the basis of overall evidence and material facts in the case, the case was judicially weak. On May 11, The CBI registered a corruption case against Wankhede, Vishwa Vijay Singh, Ashish Ranjan, and other two private persons.
